Don't Sleep on the NJ Assembly Election ... It Could Shape the Next Decade

By Madelyn Colliier

Our current Assembly representatives in New Jersey’s 23rd Legislative District are career politicians who have been in office for 16 years and have consistently failed to represent our community’s needs. This year, we have the chance to change that by electing Guy Citron and Tyler Powell.

The stakes are high. With a new governor, and a Republican-controlled federal government, this election will shape New Jersey’s agenda on reproductive rights, healthcare, land use, and taxes for years to come.

Our current representatives’ responses at the Oct. 14 WRNJ candidates forum made one thing clear: they aren’t equipped to lead. Instead of offering any solutions for New Jersey families, they relied on the same hollow rhetoric and same canned talking points they’ve been using for 16 years.

They consistently avoid accountability. They have refused to work across the aisle to support tax relief programs like ANCHOR, which gave nearly 2 million New Jerseyans direct rebates, and Stay NJ, which cuts seniors' property taxes in half. During the forum, they relied on lies, half-truths, and misleading claims about taxes, the budget, and power bills.

By contrast, Citron and Powell have shown a genuine understanding of our community. They have listened to neighbors at town halls, local boards, and county meetings, and presented practical, innovative solutions. They addressed housing affordability while preserving community character, proposed modernizing energy infrastructure, and offered thoughtful education reforms: regionalizing school districts, supporting fair teacher salaries, improving standardized testing, and encouraging trades and occupational skills.

On housing and education, our current representatives resorted to fear-mongering, calling housing initiatives “social engineering” and framing inclusive education as “indoctrination.” Citron and Powell offer constructive solutions that meet real needs without scapegoating residents.

After 16 years of inaction, it’s time for representatives who focus on solving problems, not playing politics. Citron and Powell are ready to deliver practical solutions that improve daily life in our district and our state. Vote for Guy Citron and Tyler Powell for State Assembly on November 4, 2025.
